Matt Karres

BIOGRAPHY

Matt Karres is of counsel in the firm’s real estate group. He concentrates his practice on commercial lease review and related activities, real estate acquisition and finance.

COMMERCIAL LEASE REVIEW

Matt has practiced law since 1984.  He joined Family Dollar Stores, Inc. as in-house counsel in 1989 and worked for Family Dollar until its acquisition by Dollar Tree, Inc. in 2015.  He continued to work as in-house counsel for Dollar Tree in Charlotte and then in Chesapeake, Virginia until 2023, when he joined Essex Richards. Matt has more than 30 years experience in corporate and real estate areas including drafting, negotiating, reviewing, and modifying commercial retail leases. He has been involved in various related real estate matters including real estate litigation with outside counsel.  Dollar Tree operates retail stores in 48 states and Canada.

Since joining Essex Richards, Matt has worked with the firm’s clients drafting commercial leases.

COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE ACQUISITION AND FINANCE

The firm’s real estate group represents developers, owners, and businesses in a wide range of commercial real estate transactions for the acquisition, disposition, leasing, construction, and development of real property.
