Charlotte – July 1, 2015: Lauren Lewis, a board-certified specialist in family law with Essex Richards, has been named Young Lawyer of the Year by the Mecklenburg County Bar.
Lewis was selected for her remarkable commitment to her community and the Bar in the eight years she has practiced law.
Among other accomplishments, she was lawyer co-chair of Fighting for Women with Fashion, a fashion presentation and silent auction that raised nearly $100,000 for the Safe Alliance domestic violence shelter in Charlotte. She has provided free legal counsel to members of the general public for multiple organizations and handles tough cases as a volunteer attorney for the Council for Children’s Rights.
She was honored as a Super Lawyer Rising Star in family law for 2015 and 2014. She is former chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Bar and continues to volunteer on the Bar’s Board of Directors and with the Bar’s Nonprofits and Client Pro Bono Committee. The Charlotte Business Journal chose Lewis for its 40 under 40 Class of 2015. These are 40 individuals under the age of 40 who are making major strides in their careers and having a positive impact on their communities.
“Her whole body of work impressed us,” says Christian Staples, chair of the Young Lawyers Division of the Bar. “Lauren has done it all.”
Lewis says she’s grateful for the opportunities that being involved with the Bar have provided her. “There are a lot of motivated young lawyers in our community who come together through the YLD to do good, hard, and valuable work. It means a great deal to me to be recognized by my peers.”
Lewis’s legal practice includes separation, divorce, child custody and support, domestic violence, marital agreements, alternative dispute resolution and collaborative family law.
